Graduate Business Projects
Here are a few of the graduate projects that have been funded through the our Business Plan Competitions or through the Mentor Venture Capital Fund.
Mongolia
Ariuna Tserenjavin was born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as the youngest of nine children. Her childhood and teenage years were spent during the socialist regime, when owning a business was not even a dream. By the time socialism ended and people were permitted to own private businesses, her parents were at retirement age.
Samoa
Howard Afualo was born in American Samoa, as the youngest of nine children. His father was an entrepreneur who believed and taught the importance of hard work. Although Howard was a successful manager in his father's trucking business he decided to further his education.
Cambodia
Veasna Neang grew up in Cambodia during the many years of civil war witnessing the horrible destruction caused by the Khmer Rouge and the long lasting war. When he got an opportunity to come to BYU-Hawai'i and earn an undergraduate degree, he took it wholeheartedly.
Japan
The Japan Business Plan Competition supports Japanese entrepreneurs who have quality business ideas, want to start new businesses, and who are particularly interested in conducting business consistent with the family/work balance principle.
Prizes are awarded for winning business plans and entrepeneurs are introduced to funding sources. The Japan Business Plan Competition is sponsored each year by the Yamagata Foundation and the website can be seen at www.JapanBPC.com .
Prizes awarded are:
* 1st PLACE: 1,000,000 yen
* 2nd PLACE: 500,000 yen
* 3rd PLACE: 300,000 yen
